Currently testing latest fsd build on my gaming xbox.
Seems like xex parsing stopped working properly. Anthony started cleaning up the xex code so we can add delta compressed xex support (xex recreated using 360 game hack tool) and it should also be using the internal fonction of the kernel to decompress the xex, instead of the function i wrote. But as I said, doesnt seems to be running fine.
HTTP indexing seems to works fine and stable. Didnt crashed while indexing my >300 games library + >300 xbla games. (Might be talking too fast as its still indexing but fill pretty confident its working fine).
Copy DVD is still not completed (a fixed core library is completed, only the gui is left) should this be in alpha or should it be left for later release?
Still didnt had time to code a lot, but it seems like my first post this week gave the whole team a little boost.

=) sounds all great! go on FSD-Team!!!
ReplyDeletei think the copydvd-option is not that much relevant for jtags cause of ftp. i never burned a game since i have a jtag.
thanks for your work :)
Yeah. I think most of us will be excited enough to see a release even with some features not working yet. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI think the copy dvd function is not so relevant for a first release, almost everyone copy games with usb drive or ftp instead of burning a double layer dvd and then copy to the xbox. IMHO it's best to leave greyed out not-working functions. Thanks for the work to everyone involved!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Juanan. I think most of us copy to the USB drive or FTP the games over. Ripping straight from the disc isn't that important right now since we haven't had that feature yet.
ReplyDeleteGREAT news about the indexer also. That will be a great feature to have native to the 360.
agree with guys above. dvd copy can wait, everyone is soo excited to have an alpha to play with and drool over! keep it up!
ReplyDeleteCan wait till you let us all have a go on it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for getting stuck back into it :)
thanks for your effort so far
ReplyDeletekeep up the good work :)
Set up the dvd copy as a module so that it will do nothing like now, but once it recognizes that the module is installed the dash will allow dumping.
ReplyDeleteThis is killing me, It would be better to put out an alpha (so we all can check-out the new features, help with testing and inspire others etc..)
ReplyDeleteAs other Dan above said: release without copy DVD working (We can do it manually in the mean time, like they did with Xexloader etc..)

ReplyDeleteI think disabling anything that makes the alpha get released sooner is ok with the majority of us. As long as it loads games and has ftp I can wait for all the rest. Thanks for taking the time to help make this great app better.
ReplyDeleteI usually use the option to copy from dvd :( because i have many old games in dvd and is better for me to copy from dvd because I dont have too much space in my external hd. :( plz finish with that option before to release the last version :D
ReplyDelete@emulation you can use xexmenu to rip dvds, keep using that until the guys have time to get it working on fsd 2.0. this kind of feature surely should not hold back the release of such a highly anticipated program.
ReplyDeletemmm is strange because that option was working good in 1.20 ¿o.O?
ReplyDelete@emulation... You carry on using 1.2 to rip your games, and use 2.0 for your main dash ?
ReplyDeleteGood work guys... looking awesome ! ! !
I prefer to use only 1 program.
ReplyDeletethen don`t update and wait for the final release!
ReplyDeleteand let us get our alpha!
any news on fsd 2.0 release date? keep checking the blog daily but im not seeing any posts past 3 days ago
ReplyDeleteI don't know why everyone is desperate to test the new version... please take your time to do a better application without errors :p
emulation, you should learn the difference between errors and non-priority features.
ReplyDeleteEven if the alpha has nothing new other than the NXE look and smoother browsing of my game collection, I'll be very happy.
exactly, but remember that option works fine in older versions... is very important to be the same features working fine... and only test the new ones.
ReplyDeletejust give us something!!!
ReplyDeleteWhy has it gone-all quiet again?? I'm starting to believe some of these 'Conspiracy Theories' I've been hearing lately (Some ppl think it's all photoshop for donations)
ReplyDeleteWe would donate if we had something concrete.
please try to show some screenshots a little bit more often, like once a week or so, because the wait is killing us xDD
ReplyDeletei have an idea for something you can integrate later. How about a disc-to-GOD type application that you can put that game in your drive choice, so if you have all your games on an external you can save them there.
ReplyDeleteFor everyone trying to rush this project or (this is especially directed at Dan) suggesting/supporting the idea that FSD 2.0 might be a hoax, have a little respect.
ReplyDeleteAlso @Dan: There's video footage of FSD 2.0 on teamfsd.com, not exactly something you can spoof with Photoshop, genius.
If you think you can make a dashboard that is greater or equal to FSD, then pursue that rather than fill pages with meaningless words. In effect (and I don't mean to speak for the FSD team), what you are probably doing is discouraging development of FSD. I know if I was developing something like FSD and reading comments like that, I would question my reason for creating this dashboard (e.g. why work so hard on something only to give it away for free [donations are optional] to a bunch of kindergarten-minded, demanding, selfish, impatient pricks).
Yes, that was a bit of a rant, but lets please show support to the FSD developers (and those like them) so that they are encouraged to continue doing what they are doing. Lets face it, it's hard work and not very profitable. They have ulterior, probably selfless motives for programming. I'm willing to bet the ranch that the amount of donation money they have received (in relation to the amount of hours they have spent programming) is far less than the hourly rate they would have earned at a traditional programming job.
//end rant
Now for my opinion on the Copy DVD function.
-Yes, I think it's important. I had a couple of dozen games that were on DL DVDs that were not backed up on my computer to extract and ftp to my 360.
-No, I don't think the lack of this feature should delay an alpha release. We can all use earlier versions of FSD to copy DVDs to HDD/USB until this feature is implemented into FSD 2.
//hope you don't mind HellDoc ;)

As far as I know, we still cannot donate towards FSD yet. They don't have a donation system in place, so yeah...
ReplyDeleteThat's what they say over at teamfsd.com, but apparently there was some exchange of money, at least to HellDoc.
ReplyDelete"XDK Donations
XDK was ordered! Thx a lot to all of those who donated!"
...towards the top right of this blog.
But you're right. There doesn't seem to be any permanent system of donation towards FSD yet. Also, I have (personally) never seen a single sentence in which a developer of FSD requested donations. On the other hand, I have seen TeamFSD refuse donations (see April 23, 2010 post on teamfsd.com
All of this adds up to equal:
1. Allegations of TeamFSD programming for monetary motives = bullshit
2. Allegations of TeamFSD making false claims about expected features for and/or current progress on FSD for monetary motives = bullshit.
... although those guys have normal lifes and (i think the most) normal jobs to serve.
ReplyDeleteDon't always request screenshots or vids. How should you display something that hasnt changed visualy?!
Be happy, if they find an hour per day to work on the project :)
@HellDoc and FSD-Developers:
Dont let you get down by such comments. The most people post, if they find something negative ;-) A "thank you" is very much rather... but be sure here are a lots of fans, which honor your work!!
Simply its YOUR dashboard and you've made it much better so far, than M$ could ever do!
This is really one of the greatest homebrew i've ever seen on a console....and just one more time: THANK YOU :-)
Freestyle Dash for Xbox 360 is what XBMC was on the original Xbox.
ReplyDeleteIts that awesome. :)
Just wish they found a way to properly debug on a JTAGed Xbox 360 and im sure the 360 homebrew community would explode. (In a good way)
So i wish all the FSD developers good luck and hopefully they have enough spare time to release FSD before the summer ends.
@DEagleson
ReplyDeleteFSD is good but its no xmbc! lol
i jtaged to get xmbc as i used it on my xbox years back but sadly there is no version for the 360 :(
any chance of an update on FSD 2 (its been 6 days since your last dialy update chap)
no news ???
ReplyDeletethis FSD 2.0 is like duke nukem forever, never gonna be done
ReplyDeleteCome helldoc, lets get something out for us. We all together gave you almost $1000. I think its only fair that you release something.
ReplyDeleteMost likely its not stable enough to be released from all the recent additions that are key to basic operation and cant be disabled and have it functional. If you check the SVN logs they are hard at work making improvements and alot of it appears to be essential to basic operations. It would be nice if he would atleast say thats the case but I'm sure he is busy and will eventually. Perhaps he is wanting to be silent until he has something to give us all besides incremental updates and more bad news of delays for this or that.
ReplyDeleteto Mason
ReplyDelete$ 1000 is ridiculous.
Such work is on the order of magnitude greater.
Donation is when something you have someone that you are giving, and with him nor anything not required.
Not beautiful act on your part.
Waiting FSD. I hope that it will be on our consoles soon.
Thanks TeamFSD 1.2 is awesome and was free not like the other teabaggers in the scene charging to share.
ReplyDeleteGood luck this week debugging hope it goes smooth and we see FSD 2.0 soon..
2 things,
1) can we have write access to NAND filesystem over FTP yet?
2) have you seen XDesk lately? it looks great on your dash
To ramrod80:
ReplyDeleteYes $1000 is ridiculous. Ridiculous to take upfront before releasing any work to be worthy of donations. So i say either release something already or give me my money back. I donated in good faith that it might push along the progress of a release, but as of now all we have is more delays and more empty promises.
Worthy of donation? download FSD 1.2
ReplyDeleteHey tom do a little research. The FSD 2.0 dash team is completely different group of people then those who made FSD 1.2 and older.
ReplyDeleteBut hey thanks for the comment BUDDY!
grab a dictionary and look up the definition of donation BUDDY!
ReplyDeleteMason, actually the people who made fsd 1.20 are the same guys who are making 2.0, they also made 1.09 and 1.10...the original creator's name is axc97c, and he gave the source after 1.08...get your facts straight.
ReplyDeleteWow good one tom. Sorry i never learned how to use a dictionary since I dropped out of school in the first grade. Ha your a clown.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a conversation about a unofficial release this week is taking place in teamfsd.com:
